Your typical New Year's Eve posting

Well, it's New Year's Eve once again.
It snuck up on me this year.
I've been off for a couple of weeks and the down time has caused me to forget what day it is.
If it wasn't for my chocolate advent calendar I would have been late for Christmas never mind New Years.

So now I proceed with your typical New Year's Eve reflection on the past year.

A lot has happened in my life and the life of those close to me this year. I moved out with my friend to our very first apartment. I love our apartment, its big and warm and we both enjoy cleaning about as much as we love getting gum in our hair. (not as fun as it sounds) So it's been a good run, we get along great, hardly ever see each other and yet actually enjoy each other's company when we have it.  We just faxed in the letter saying that we will be terminating our lease when it's up at the end of March. It's the sad end of an era...good times, no, Great times where had in that apartment.  Just under a year has passed and its already time to think about moving on.

Moving on to Summer '09 I had the privilege to be part of one of the Winnipeg Fringe Festival's Best of Fest shows. Bloodless has been one of the best shows I've ever been involved in to date. With a wonderful, talented cast and crew, we sailed past the competition (not that we cared about competing), and won not only Best of Fest for our venue but our playwright also won the Harry Rintoul award and a Jenny.

In other performing news this past year, The Crosseyed Rascals ( http://www.crosseyed.ca ) had a very successful year. We actually took home some money from the Fringe Festival and nearly sold out our venue on a few nights. We said goodbye to one member and howdy-doody to two new members! We continue to explore new ventures and are writing a play.

My sister K got married to Ty in September. Now their married, boring and disgusting, but I say all of that with love.  They have introduced the rest of our family to the game Settlers of Catan.  Now my dad doesn't want to do anything else. He and Ty can get very competitive to the advantage of the other players. They spend so much time trying to beat each other that they don't pay any attention to anyone else and someone else wins.

G also moved out. Right before Christmas. It's been weird even just visiting my parents. Where there used to be a four litre of milk there is only a two. The bread has to be kept in the freezer now to keep it from going bad. All around the house just seems less lived in, although I'm sure my mother likes the fact that it's easier to clean.

Well that pretty much wraps up the main highlights of 2009. Yeah, it leaves a lot out but whats a year but 525,948.766 minutes, each one of the unique, bring us closer to home, closer to the ones we love and what more can we hope for in 2010.

Happy New Year...

...a three hour tour!

I've been in beautiful British Columbia for 5 days now and its been a really great trip. I'm here with my family, all members of my mother's immediate family, all staying in one house. It actually feels like an episode of Full House sometimes with all the kids, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpas, even some foster kids! Its really interesting!

Today was a particularly interesting day. Everyone woke up early, as usual, (its hard to sleep in with a four-year-old running around). Grandma was already working away in the kitchen making New Year's Cookies.  These wonderful deep-fried, fruit-filled cookies are traditionally made on new years's day. I am sure they are traditionally a hang-over cure as well with the sugar and oil...mmmmmmm... Everyone had their fill of the seasonal treat and began to make plans for the day.

My dad, sister G, and Auntie Ro decided to go skiing at a near by hill. My mother told the little girls that they were going on an "adventure" or as one who can read between the lines, a shopping trip. They took my sister K and bro-in-law Ty.

That left Uncle Lou, Uncle K, the two teenaged girls and me. We were to go on an adventure of our own. One that didn't include shopping. While Uncle Lou gassed up the ATV's and snowmobile, Uncle K took the girls on their paper route and I made sandwiches and gathered snacks. At 11:30 we were on those ATV's and heading up the mountain. First of all, driving ATV's up the side of a mountain is pretty frakking awesome!

Eventually we got to a lake where we cut a hole in the ice and dropped a line. It was the first time I have ever ice fished. I learned that there isn't much to it but could be kind of relaxing.  We built a fire soon after and Uncle K and the girls put on their skates. The lake was covered in snow and the fog was so thick you couldn't see the other side of the small lake but off they went. Uncle K, who hadn't been skating in years was like a little boy with brand new skates on and just skated and skated! I glided on my boots and ran around the lake. Something about being up and out in nature and the great outdoors makes you feel free like an uninhibited child. I even made a snow angel. Returning to the fire from across the lake the fog got so think I could hardly see where I was going. If I didn't know where I was going, I wouldn't have known where I was going.

Well, we didn't catch any fish to eat but we ate my sandwiches, some fudgey cookies and chips while we warmed our cold toes by the fire. Soon we were out of firewood and it was time to return to civilization. Loading up the ATV's and snowmobile we headed back down the mountain. Letting the girls drive down for part of the way I got to really see the mountainside. The indescribable beauty is, well...indescribable.

We got home safely and the whole thing was awesome!  I could do that everyday. The little trip up the mountain is making me seriously reconsider my plans for moving to a major city centre in favour of moving to a mountain town or some out back resort town in Quebec or something. Maybe even the Yukon, I hear it beautiful up there. It might be longer than a three hour tour but then again so was Giligan's!

This is not a test.

Yeah
This is the third time I've started a blog. And I must admit I've been inspired by a movie. I make no apologies. The reason I've been thus inspired is because in the movie (okay it was Julie & Julia), Julie said that her reason for blogging was that it was a regimen. Something to do consistently and with a deadline.

So my short term goal for this blog is to find one thing to write about everyday, for a month. Then we shall go from there.
It's good. I need short term goals too and you, my faithful readers (you know who you are), I'm counting on you to harass me to keep going. I really want to do it this time!
Okay, thanks...
Here goes...
